Rethinking the Request-to-IO Transformation Process of File Systems for Full Utilization of High-Bandwidth SSDs

Recent years have seen rapid growth in the capacity and throughput of modern SSDs, but traditional file systems are unable to fully utilize their storage capabilities. Analysis points to three main reasons for this inefficiency: the cost of SSD page alignment, cache overhead, and insufficient parallelism of IO operations. To address this, OrchFS introduces a mechanism of heterogeneous IO operations and alignment-based write splitting, utilizing a small amount of NVM memory.
