During the ditributed systems seminar (April 15^th, 1999) I will try to present the idea of ecommerce and emoney. Some points that will be discussed:

• A short introduction to ecommerce

What it really is. Is it important? Its means of activity: portals, email, internet shops, internet services, Information Technology involved.
Case studies: internet banking - Citibank, integrated customer services - Price Chopper
• Net-based electronic payment schemes (based on [*])
• evolutionary approaches (based od existing solutions - credit, debit cards, EFT/POS)

using PGP, SHTTP, SSL, SET
• revolutionary approaches
• value-token creation and passing (DigiCash, NetCash, Globe ID)
• micropayments (Cybercoin, Millicent, MPTP)
• Electronic Payment Instructions (NetCheque, NetBill)
• integrated approach - Stored-Value Card Payment (Mondex)
• Important issues to be addressed when talking about the emoney:

independence, security, privacy, transferability, divisibility, ease of use
